Ascension Lutheran Church will be celebrating its fiftieth anniversary as a congregation in 2010. Our congregation, under the leadership of the Rev. Robert Kerekes, was officially chartered on Sunday, January 10, 1960, in the former 4-H building that was located on Tyler Road, across from the present Tyler Campus location. According to church records, 151 communicants and 285 souls were received into membership that special day. Many of these charter members remain Ascension members today with stories to share; therefore, the 50th Anniversary celebration committee will be featuring one of these families monthly as we look forward to 2010: “Still Carrying the Mission…The Mission Goes On”
